MEET TIM BALASIUK

Niagara-on-the-Lake is more than the community Tim Balasiuk represents. It is home.

Born and raised here, Tim comes from a family with deep roots in Niagara-on-the-Lake. His grandparents were local farmers, giving his family a longstanding connection to the agricultural heritage that remains such an important part of the Town’s identity. His family also has deep ties to Niagara-on-the-Lake’s hospitality industry, including the Pillar and Post, which his grandfather helped establish in the 1970s.

Growing up in Niagara-on-the-Lake shaped Tim’s appreciation for what makes this community different: its agricultural lands, historic neighbourhoods, local businesses, natural environment and, most importantly, the people who call it home.

That connection eventually led Tim to build a business of his own. As the founder of Paddle Niagara, Tim turned his passion for the outdoors and Niagara’s waterfront into a local business that has allowed him to share one of the community’s greatest natural assets with residents and visitors alike.

In 2022, Tim was elected to Niagara-on-the-Lake Town Council.

Throughout his term, Tim has taken an active role beyond the Council table, serving on the Municipal Heritage Committee, the Tourism Niagara-on-the-Lake Board of Directors, the Tourism Niagara-on-the-Lake Finance Committee, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Amalgamation Committee and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Santa Claus Parade Committee.

These roles have given Tim the opportunity to work alongside residents, community organizations and local leaders on issues that touch many different aspects of life in Niagara-on-the-Lake — from protecting our heritage and supporting a strong tourism economy to fiscal responsibility, community history and the traditions that bring residents together.

Over the past four years, serving on Council has also deepened Tim’s understanding of the distinct needs and priorities across all five villages and the neighbourhoods within them. While each area of Niagara-on-the-Lake has its own identity, history and challenges, Tim believes every resident deserves to feel heard and represented at Town Hall. His responsibility as a councillor is to consider what is best for the municipality as a whole while respecting the individual communities that make Niagara-on-the-Lake what it is. Tim believes progress and preservation must go hand in hand.

As Niagara-on-the-Lake continues to grow and evolve, he believes decisions must respect the character of our neighbourhoods, protect our agricultural and green spaces, support a strong local economy and ensure infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of the community.

Tim is seeking re-election in 2026 because he believes there is still important work ahead.

For him, public service is ultimately about responsibility — being accessible to residents, listening to different perspectives and remembering that every decision made at Town Hall affects the people who live, work and raise their families here.

Niagara-on-the-Lake shaped who Tim is. Serving all five villages and their neighbourhoods is a responsibility he is proud to carry forward.
